Steven Samu Obituary

Steven John Samu

AGE: 77 • Carteret

Steven John Samu died on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, NJ. He was 77 years old. Born in Perth Amboy, Steven lived his entire life, except for his years in the Air Force, in Carteret, NJ. He worked for U.S. Metals as an iron worker for 29 years. In 1987 he began a second career as a security guard for Supermarket's General on Blair road and worked there for 11 years. Pete, as he was known by all who loved him, joined the Air Force at the young age of 17 and spent many years overseas in Europe. The happiest days of his life were spent in Italy and Germany. After his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Carteret, married and had five children. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Star Landing Post 2314 in Carteret. Pete's passions in life were hunting, gardening and swimming but as he grew older and softened, the hunter in him became more of an observer, photographer and videographer. He loved the outdoors and appreciated all of its beauty. He had a green thumb and many of his summer days were spent tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and swimming with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his long time friend, Audrey Superior; his children, Kelly and her husband Michael of Flemington, Robin of Carteret, Steven and his wife Suzanne of Carteret, Michael and his wife Cindy of Yucca Valley, CA and Scott and his wife Terri of Iselin; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Helen and a brother, Joe of CA and a sister, Betty of FL.

The Viewing will be on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue in Carteret. VFW will hold their ritual at 7:00 PM and the Funeral Service will be at 8:30 PM. A private cremation will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

I remember Uncle Pete's laugh the most..... you would laugh just hearing him laugh. As a child, my family and I would go to his house and swim and bar b Que all day! I have many fond memories that I will carry in my heart until it's my turn to be called home to Heaven, where I'm sure Uncle Pete already has an amazing garden started!

His name and legacy will be proudly carried on by his son. I humbly pay my respects to this honorable man! May you rest in peace sir!
