June 1, 1941 - July 15, 2013
Jerome, known to his friends as Jerry, lost his last battle with cancer on July 15 at age 72, with his family by his side. He was born in Great Falls, Montana to Iola and James Deeney and was raised in Walla Walla, Washington. Jerry was a longtime resident of Belmont, California and is survived by his wife, Betty Pohls Deeney, of Belmont, his son, Jeffrey Deeney, and daughter in law, Janette Deeney of Foster City, and his brother Jim Deeney and family in Montana.
Jerry attended Washington State University, then served in the army and was attached to the Embassy in Turkey and had a Top Secret clearance. After the service, he moved to California and was a Casualty Adjuster for California State Auto Association for over 30 years.
Jerry enjoyed sports, both as a participant and as a fan. In his retirement, he was an avid golfer and excellent bowler, with five sanctioned 300 games to his name. Jerry was a loyal 49er fan, and was a season ticket holder for 45 years. He also enjoyed his involvement with SIRS members and activities.
Jerry was a quiet, caring person with a quick wit. His family and friends and pets were most important to him. His passing will leave a void for family and friends alike.
Family and friends are invited to Graveside Funeral Service at Solvang Cemetery on Monday, July 22 at 11:00am.
