Not sure what to say?

Dear Family,
My sympathy to you all in the loss of precious Jean. We served as State Presidents together in the General Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a good friend, always thinking of others, and will be missed by all of Maxine's Millineum Belles. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I just learned of Jean's passing. We served as state presidents together in the General Federal of Women's Clubs. She was always a joy and will be missed.

My sympathy to your families. My mother, Trudy Schaefer, was so concerned about Jean when she received your note - she immediately sent her a note. They were friends for over 45 years. Mother died suddenly two weeks ago, and now Jean. We were lucky to have had our mothers for so long, but no matter the age it doesn't make the loss hurt any less. May God watch over you and help mend the hole in your heart.

Kay Schaefer Freeland, Morehead, KY

We are so sorry about your loss.

May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your loved one comfort you and your family, today and always.

So sorry for your loss. I knew Jean through the GFWC Federation of Woman's Club. I am from Cerro Gordo Womans Club and Charleston W.C. was in our District, so I knew her through district and state Woman's Club Activities. She was a Grand Lady!!!

Dear Tracey and Tia:
I just learned today about Jean's passing. I had on my mind to call her as Tracey had given me her private number at Odd Fellows. I had called her once but was going to call this weekend only to learn that she isn't here. She was a good friend; we played bridge together and she loved nothing better than to go to Big Lots in Mattoon where she always found some wonderful little trinket that "brought a twinkle to her eye".
I know she is with God and Paul and...

I will always remember your mother and dad as friendly and extending persons in times of others needs. God bless all of you.

I will always remember Jean as a very spirited lady who lived life on her terms. May your memories comfort you thru this difficult time.

Jean was born on May 25, 1921 in Wapello, Iowa the only child of the late Lloyd and Anna (Warren) Rouch.  She was united in marriage to Paul E. Seitsinger on March 9, 1945 in her hometown of Wapello and they shared fifty-six years of marriage and friendship prior to his death on March 14, 2001.   Jean is survived by her daughters, Tracey L. Carlyle and husband Michael of Chicago and Tia J. DeLong and husband Bradley of Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren, Shannon C. Smith and husband Grant of Acworth, Georgia, Ryan M. Carlyle of Chicago, Derek P. Drake and wife Veronika of Madison, Wisconsin, Bryant W. DeLong, Danny S. DeLong and Shane T. DeLong, all of Olathe; and one great-grandchild, Brayden Smith.

Jean earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and was accepted to the Chicago Conservatory of Music where she continued her musical studies.  She served as a music teacher in several school districts with her last employment being with Mattoon High School.  Following her teaching career Jean truly enjoyed her role as manager of Seitsinger Apartments.

Jean has been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church since moving to Charleston in 1965.  She was a social butterfly and became involved with numerous community organizations which included the Coles County Republican Women; the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs where she served as State President; P.E.O. Charleston Chapter CF, also serving as President; the Charleston Country Club, and was a member of several bridge clubs.  Jean also had a generous heart and volunteered her time with the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Guild.  She previously served as Guild President and always looked forward to assisting with the annual Festival of Trees event.

Jean was an independent and strong-willed lady with a sense of elegance, class and a flair for style.  She enjoyed entertaining and hosting dinner parties and was a marvelous cook – especially when it came to preparing desserts.  She and Paul enjoyed traveling together and later Jean enjoyed taking trips with friends.  Jean was always eager to serve up "a cup of friendship" and cherished her many friends.  Watching basketball was a favorite pastime and she seized the opportunities to cheer on her favorites – the EIU Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Fighting Illini.  Jean was extremely proud of her daughters and their families - her grandchildren and great-grandchild were her pride and joy.  Jean will be warmly and fondly remembered by her family and many friends.Click here to view Family Memorial Video.
