CHARLESTON, IL – Charles Lynn Virden, age 62 of Charleston and formerly of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home with his loving wife at his side. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Salisbury Church in Hutton located at 2190 County Highway 5, with Pastor Ray Finney officiating. Interment, with Military Rites conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592, will follow in Salisbury Cemetery located in Hutton Township southeast of Charleston. It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts in his honor be made to the Salisbury Church Children's Program. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Chuck was born on November 18, 1949 in Decatur, Illinois, a son of the late Glen and Flossie (Speagle) Virden. He married his long time best friend, Cathy (Jackson) Burrow on October 22, 2004 in Milaca, Minnesota. He is survived by his loving wife Cathy of rural Charleston; three children, Jennifer Virden and her fiancé Greg Stuka of Chicago, Gabrielle Tasco and husband Ordello and Robert Virden, all of Quincy, Illinois; two stepchildren, Richard Cox and wife Christine of Mt. Zion, Illinois and Sheila Kalapis of Charleston; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Virden and Patricia Virden, both of Charleston; a brother, Donald Virden and wife Norma of Spencerburg, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by three grandsons and a granddaughter.
Chuck was a twenty-seven year United States Army Veteran who proudly and honorably serving his country in Vietnam.
His most recent employment was with Agri-Fab in Sullivan, Illinois and was at one time employed with Citizen's Bank in Quincy and Decatur. He was a member of and attended Salisbury Church.
Chuck enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He and Cathy enjoyed traveling but at heart Chuck was a homebody who was content to tinker around the house and in the yard. He was a quiet and soft-spoken man who dearly loved his family and possessed a kind and caring affection and concern for others.
