Dave & Sherry, very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother/motherinlaw. How I never knew her, I'm quite confident she was a great lady just knowing what kind of a son she raised. As hard as it will seem, just know today that she is in a much better place.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of such a wonderful lady. I will miss seeing her in church. I pray for comfort for the family in their time of mourning. May they find comfort in their memories and peace knowing that she is at home with our heavenly father.

Our thoughts and prayers to all of Betty's family. She was a wonderful friend to our Aunt Olive Huber and to all who knew her! We got many calls telling us that she was afraid Aunt Olive needed help from us. So appreciated her concern and thoughtfulness. That was just Betty. Now they are united in their Heavenly home. Friends and Sisters in Christ. Rest in Peace Sweet Lady, your work on earth is done! Love Betty and Marvin Mode

Aunt Betty was like a second mother to me. She cared of me, my sister,Pat and my brother, John when my mother had no where else to turn. If I am correct, I believe it was Aunt Betty's idea and, without a moment's hesitation, she welcomed us into home. Some of my fondest memories are during that time!
Picking wild blackberries along the fence and then smashing them and sprinkling them with loads of sugar, eating rubarb (dipped in more sugar) while walking down to the gravel pit to swim,...

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Central Christian Church, 915 W. Lincoln Avenue in Charleston with Reverend Cory Yeager officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashmore Cemetery located in Ashmore, Illinois. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Betty was born on June 22, 1926 in Bruce, Illinois, the daughter of the late Fred William and Leila I. (Weakly) Bragg. She married Henry M. Shoot on December 10, 1945 in Charleston and they enjoyed forty-five years of marriage prior to his death on January 31, 1991. Betty is survived by two loving children, her daughter, Linda D. Moody and her husband George of Charleston and her son, Dave Shoot and his wife Sherry of Findlay, IL; eleven grandchildren, Deb Davis of Chatham, IL, Matt Davis of Charleston, Jason Shoot and wife Sarah of Makanda, IL, Josh Shoot and wife Karen of Edwardsville, IL, Michaela Shoot-Canario of Warren, RI, Kandace Thompson of Florida, Andrea Harmon and husband Jody of Lithia Springs, GA, Sarah Harris of Douglasville, GA, Jeri Muccio and husband Ernie, Bill Fahey and Ryan Shoot Fahey, all of Rhode Island; eleven great-grandchildren, Morgan and Jacob Lauher, Dagan, Talia, Andrew, Averie and Madi Shoot, Alexa and Lucas Canario, Jacob Harmon and Hannah Harris; her sister, Lela Mae Klickovich of Pleasant Prairie, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded by two sons, William Michael Shoot and Rickey Eugene Shoot; and a brother, Fred Willliam Bragg, Jr.
Betty was primarily a homemaker but from 1964-1970 she owned and operated Betty's Café located on Main Street in Ashmore. She has been a member of Central Christian Church in Charleston for many years where she was actively involved in its activities and ministries including the Prime Time group which assembled there weekly. She was also a member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Paul McVey Post 1592, Order of the Eastern Star Sopha C Chapter and the United Ostomy Association.
Betty's hobbies included sewing and embroidery. She also enjoyed fishing until she caught the first fish and mushroom hunting until she came across the first snake. Henry and Betty made a good team, especially when it came to gardening - Henry tended the vegetable garden and Betty enjoyed canning the fruits of his labor. Betty enjoyed socializing, and the social butterfly that she was along with her wonderful sense of humor, allowed her to enjoy many enduring friendships. She was not only a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose devotion to her family was unconditional, but their friend as well. Her family and many friends are blessed with fond memories to treasure; and it was only fitting that Betty was a collector of angels, as she was often referred to as being an angel because of her kindness and compassion for others.
