CHARLESTON, IL – Anna Margaret Davis, age 83 of Charleston, entered her heavenly home while in the comforting presence of her children and grandchildren on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation for family and friends will be held this evening (Friday) September 21, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the funeral chapel with Reverend Dr. Thomas Hawkins and Reverend Jan Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery located in Oakland, Illinois. It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts in her honor be made to the First Presbyterian Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Anna was born on December 13, 1928 in Oakland, Illinois and was a daughter of the late Andy and Ruth (Dever) Taylor. She married Charles Richard "Dick" Davis on September 28, 1946 and they enjoyed fifty-nine years of friendship and marriage prior to his death on November 15, 2005. She is survived by her two loving and devoted children, Debbie Huddleston and husband Ben, and Donnie Davis and special friend Tami, all of Charleston; three grandchildren, Brent Davis and special friend Shauna Navid of Phoenix, Arizona, Chad Isley and wife April of Charleston, and Brandi Brown and husband Doug of Gilbert, Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Davis and Charli Brown of Gilbert and Jai Davis of Phoenix. In addition to her parents and husband Anna was preceded in death by her sister, Sara Frederick.
Following high school Anna furthered her education at Eastern Illinois State Teacher's College where she received her teaching certificate and later taught at the Mullen School north of Charleston. Anna also worked for Dale Hoots at the Burger King but most will remember her during her twenty-six year tenure with the Coles County Treasurer's Office. She is a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston and was a member of the American Business Women's Association.
Anna Margaret was a woman of diverse talents – whether it was taking tickets at the Coles County Dragstrip or investing tax dollars for the county – Anna was devoted to whatever the task and gave it her full attention. She was meticulous and attentive to details and that included her housekeeping as well as her appearance. She had the knack for making her house a home which was warm and inviting to all who entered its doors and she was a "classy lady" who was always elegantly and fashionably dressed. Anna was polite and considerate of others and made friends readily and easily. Therefore she was blessed with a wealth of life-long friends who knew her as Annie – her farming friends, her co-worker friends as well as her special "lunch-bunch" friends – they all held a special place in her heart. Anna's social calendar was always full – she loved to play cards, enjoyed camping trips with Dick, and traveling – often times with Debbie and Donnie and their families. It was apparent that Anna's family was her ultimate priority in life. She thought it important for families to "stick together" and she succeeded in keeping hers near and dear to her heart. Debbie and Donnie knew they could rely on their mother for loving support and encouragement in their life and she enjoyed showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and affection. Anna was a delight to know and brought joy and happiness to others through her smile and her pleasant disposition. As the matriarch of her family Anna will truly be missed but she has gifted her family with a treasure chest of wonderful memories as comforting reminders of special times shared.
