Charlie was a dear friend to our family. He was like a father and a good friend to my brother Bobby who passed away in 84. We loved Charlie like family and he is dearly missed. ❤

I worked with Charley at hydralics,sundstrand in the early '70's and he taught me some sign langauge,we had a lot of fun together.He was also a close friend of my parent's(Leroy /Ann Hansen) Me and my wife will miss him very much

Charles Pendergast...you are one of my most special friends whose I have the privilege of knowing over 30 years. From the early days of being my deaf role model which was initiated by our first encounter at the Center for the Blind and Deaf where I attended in the after-school program to those days of us sharing our visitations as the deaf kindreds over a Chinese plate or a plate full of food from the Country Inn buffet, I cherish all my times with you and had learned quite immensely your...

Charles was a friend of ours for many years and was really kind and helpful to us when my son, Joe, who also is deaf, was young and we were new tot he deaf community... We are not a deaf family, and Charles was very VERY supportive and taught us quite a lot. He remained friends with our Joe for years and years.

CHARLESTON, IL – Charles Clinton Pendergast, age 84 of Charlestonand formerly of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012at his Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center home.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. onMonday, October 1, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 MadisonAvenue in Charleston with Father John Titus presiding.  Visitation will be held at the church for onehour prior to the Mass.  Inurnment willbe in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in hishonor may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or to CitizensAgainst Child Abuse.  Gifts may be mailedin care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.  

Charlie was born September 29, 1927 in Seven HickoryTownship, Coles County, Illinois, one of nine children born to the late ThomasP. and Leone (Riney) Pendergast.  He issurvived by two brothers, John William "Bill" Pendergast and wife Eugenia andPat Pendergast, all of Charleston; two sisters, Peggy Helmerson and husband Royof Arizona and Nancy Ross and husband Doug of Birmingham, Alabama; along withnumerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents Charlie was preceded in death by a sister andher husband, Mary and Bradie Hendrix, Sr.; and three brothers, Thomas "Bud",Maurice and James Pendergast. 

While growing up in Charleston, Charlie was a member of St.Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and in Rockford was a member of the HolyFamily Chapel for the Deaf.  He was agraduate of the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, Illinois and wasa member of the deaf community in Rockford. From graduation until his retirement he was employed by the SunstrandCorporation. 

Charlie was a private individual who enjoyed being at homewhere he meticulously tended to his beautiful flowers gardens.
