I remember Tim from the time he was born and grew to be a loving man and nephew. He served in the marines and fought for our country. Whenever I saw Tim he would give me a big smile and big and loving hug. He loved nature and all the beautiful trees and flowers God put on this earth for us to enjoy. I loved Tim very much. CHARLESTON, IL – Timothy Arthur Butler, age 52 of Charleston, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at his residence. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at East Harrison Street Church of God, 17996 E. Harrison Street in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation with Pastor Curt Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery located east of Kansas, Illinois. It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts in his honor be made to the the family in care of Jim and Karen Butler. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Tim was born on September 27, 1960 in Mattoon, Illinois the son of Jim and Karen (Marrs) Butler. He married Cathy Keck on June 30, 1990 and he is survived by her and their four loving children, Clarissa Renee Butler of Chicago, Jesse James Butler, Casey Dakota Butler and Colton Wayne Butler, all of Charleston. He is also survived by a long-time special friend, Therese Shelton of Charleston; his parents, Jim and Karen Butler of Ashmore; three sisters, Julie Lefever and husband Lester "Skip" of York, Pennsylvania, Angie Rhodes of Charleston and Gretchen Elliott and husband Mark of Mattoon; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and two adorable pets, his cat, Bing Bing and his dog, Snickers. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his canine best friend, Rex.
The Ashmore Baptist Church provided a church home for Tim while growing up and following high school he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Tim was a Certified Arborist in the State of Illinois and was the owner of Green Tree Science Landscaping and Garden Center in Charleston. His artistic eye and ability was not only utilized in his landscaping but in other areas of interest such as painting, drawing and different types of wood crafting. Tim pursued a variety of other passions such as deer hunting, model trains, building and flying model airplanes, collecting antiques and through the years his love for "muscle cars" led to his owning a few.
Tim had a tender heart for animals and was especially fond of his cats. His deep and abiding love for family was often exhibited through his sense of humor - he enjoyed being the "family clown". Tim was a loving son, brother and uncle and as a loving father spending quality time with his children was extremely important. His presence in all their lives will be truly missed and the recollection of a multitude of fond memories can serve as a comfort for all who knew and loved him.
