Jerry I did not know u personally but I did have the chance to take care of you while in the hospital and you were a very sweet and cool guy.. I know your family and they are very sweet and friendly. CHARLESTON, IL – Jerry R. Davis, age 60 of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Graveside Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon with Father John Titus officiating. Military Services will be conducted at the graveside by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in his honor be made to MaryAnne Davis to be used for the Bend Community Club. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Jerry was born on October 7, 1952 in Charleston, Illinois and was a son of the late Ross and Celia (Stokes) Davis. He married MaryAnne Schalasky on November 9, 1974 at St. Valentine's in the Bend near Oblong, Illinois. He is survived by MaryAnne, his loving and devoted wife of thirty-eight years, three children, Lisa Davis Tichenor and Michael Davis, both of Charleston and Melissa Cotch and husband Nicholas of Clermont, Florida; two grandchildren, Breanna and Courtney Tichenor of Charleston; a sister, Lynn Davis of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a brother, Gale Davis.
Jerry was a United States Army Veteran and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592; a member of the Patriots, Berwyn Cisero VietNow, the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Association and a member of the former Charleston Eagles Club.
Jerry's primary hobby was airplanes and he enjoyed assembling airplane models. He was knowledgeable on the different types and models of planes and could talk planes with the best of them. A highlight in his life was piloting the Goodyear Blimp and was made a Charter Member of the Goodyear Blimp Club. He was also a NASCAR enthusiast and a Jeff Gordon fan.
Jerry was a loving husband, a devoted father and a doting grandfather. His friends and family will miss his presence in their lives but will treasure their many fond memories. Click here to view Jerry's memorial video.
