Katie and I were sorry to learn of Jerry's passing. I had the privilege of working with Jerry at Reasor Corp. over a 20 year period. As was with many others of the Reasor Corp. family, I admired him tremendously. He will be missed but always remembered as a friend of mine.

We were sorry to learn of Jerry's failing health and his death. I was an aaaociate of Jerry with the Reasor Corporation for over 25 years and Marilyn has been closely asssocited with Charlene for about as long as a member of the "lunch bunch. We share in the family's loss. Unforunately, due to the distance involved, we will not be able to attend the memorial services.

Charlene and Family: What a shock. We were classmates for 16 years and would see each other at the various reunions. This past summer we were able to spend some time together for which I am thankful. May God ease your pain. He was truly a life-long friend. Norm Endsley Bartonville IL.

Jerry was born on July 18, 1931 in Charleston and was a son of the late Guy and Elizabeth Opal (Shriner) Vaughn. He married M. Charlene Schwartz on April 1, 1953 in Charleston and they have enjoyed fifty-nine years of friendship and marriage. In addition to Charlene, Jerry is survived by two loving and devoted daughters, Derinda Vaughn and Brenda (Vaughn) Schlaline and husband Bob, all of Wilmington, North Carolina; twin grandsons, Connor and Robbie Schlaline; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Vaughn of North Carolina. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann King and two brothers, Dale Vaughn and Wendell Dean Vaughn.
Jerry was a hard worker growing up on the family farm. Following high school he attained a Bachelors Degree in Business at Eastern Illinois University and was a United States Navy Veteran. For many years Jerry was employed at the Reasor Corporation as a Comptroller and Vice-President. He later accepted a position as Vice President with King City Federal Savings Bank based in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Jerry held membership at First Christian Church in Charleston where he and Charlene both sang in the choir. More recently they have attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. He was a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M. where he was a Past Worshipful Master; a member of the Ansar Shrine, Charleston Moose Lodge #1388, Charleston Elk B.P.O.E. #623; Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and a former member of the Charleston Country Club where he would enjoy an occasional game of golf. Jerry was also a life member of the E.I.U. Alumni Association and served as President of the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce.
Jerry spent a great deal of time outdoors as he truly enjoyed mowing and lawn work as well as gardening. He was blessed with a wealth of friends and he and Charlene enjoyed getting together with many of those friends for an evening of cards and fellowship. Jerry was a man of integrity and well-respected by many. He was a family man and his commitment to those he loved was apparent – he was always a good provider and was devoted to spending quality time with them. They enjoyed traveling as a family and for many years he and Charlene have joined other snowbirds in Ft. Myers Beach for the winter. He delighted in being a grandpa to Connor and Robbie and made the trip out East as often as possible to spend time with them.
Jerry was dearly loved by his family and many friends. He was a good and loving husband to Charlene, a loving and supportive father to Derinda and Brenda and a doting grandfather to Connor and Robbie - all their lives have been enhanced through their relationship with him. They will always treasure their many fond memories of Jerry and how he influenced their lives in such positive and memorable ways.Click here to view Jerry's memorial video.
