CHARLESTON, IL – Hulon H."Rob" Robertson, age 83 of Charleston and formerly of Columbia, Missouri, wasat home on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 when he went to be with his Creator. A Memorial Service hosted by his family andchurch family in honor and celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. onSaturday, August 10, 2013 at the Old State Road Christian Church (Disciples ofChrist) located at 13982 Old State Road, Charleston with Dr. Scott Woolridgeofficiating. Rob unselfishly gifted hisphysical body to the Anatomical Gift Association for the training of medicalpersonnel and the advancement of medical science through education andresearch. It is requested that thoughtfuldonations in his honor be made to the Old State Road Christian Church or toLincolnland Hospice. The family is beingassisted by Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.
Rob was born on October 26,1929 in Steens, Mississippi and was one of five children born to the late Homerand Levie (Mordeici) Robertson. Hemarried Reverend Sharon (Magruder) Patton on June 1, 2002 and shesurvives. He is also survived bydaughters, Patricia (Bill) Jones of Syllacauga, AL and Kristi (Darrell) Wootenof Hallsville, MO; sons, Mark Robertson of Centralia, MO and Mike (Julie)Robertson of Columbia, MO; stepchildren, Sherry Patton of Charleston and JohnPatton also of Columbia; a sister, Joyce (Dan) Salaz of Reno, NV; and severalgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Inaddition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Boband Jimmie Robertson.
Rob was a United States NavyVeteran who faithfully served his country during the Korean War. He enjoyed his life-long career of truckingand drove for OTR out of Kansas City, MO and Henry Trucking out of St.Louis. Following his formal retirementRob remained behind the wheel as a school bus driver for First Student inColumbia. Rob was a member of Old StateRoad Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and one whose deep and abidingfaith served as the foundation for his Christian witness.
Rob's sense of humor wasappreciated by all who knew him – he loved to hear a good joke and had theability to never forget a punch line when telling one! He loved sports – in baseball he cheered forthe area team nearest to his home; there was no better football team thanAlabama; and no better coach than Bear Bryant. He was a huge fan of NASCAR rooting for Carl Edwards who hailed fromColumbia, Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart. Dueto being ill and the need to stay close to home the past several years heespecially enjoyed watching all the wildlife, especially the squirrels andbirds which gathered at his home for their regular feedings. Rob will truly be missed by his family andfriends but they rejoice in knowing that he is experiencing the wonderful joysof living in his heavenly home.
