Jack's Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – JackSanders, Sr., age 83 of Charleston, entered his eternal home on Thursday, July18, 2013 while at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.  Services honoring and celebrating his lifewill begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Adams Funeral Chapel with PastorKen Hoover officiating.  Visitation forfamily and friends will be held Monday from Noon until service time.  Interment, with Military Rites conducted bythe Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592, will follow inRoselawn Cemetery, Charleston.   It isrequested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to St. Jude Children'sResearch Hospital.  Gifts may be left onthe memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams FuneralChapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

 

Jack was born on December 10,1929 in Princeton, Indiana and was the son of the late William G. and Cama(Nelson) Sanders.  He married Patsy Trailoron January 9, 1954 in Decatur, IL and she survives.  He is also survived by four children, Jack G.Sanders of Oakland, IL, Robin Cox and husband Mike of Charleston, Mike "Joe"Sanders and wife Mary of Charleston, Lisa Bluhm and husband Mark of Charleston;six grandchildren, Jack William Sanders, Michael Lewis Cox, Gabe Cox, AtticusSanders, Laura McHenry and Matthew Bluhm; and a sister-in-law, Betty Snyder ofCharleston.  In addition to his parentshe was preceded in death by a sister, June Benson.

 

Jack was a United States ArmyVeteran and faithfully served his country during the Korean War.  He attained his Bachelor's Degree from MillikinUniversity in Decatur and was employed with Eastern Illinois University formany years in the Purchasing Department, and later with the Finance Departmentin the area of Budget and Planning Analysis. 

 

Jack was a member of theCharleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and was a patriot who loved hiscountry.  He kept life interesting forall those who knew him – he was extremely witty and his quick one-liners keptyou on your toes.  He was a publishedauthor of many Letters to the Editor which were his "claim to fame".  He also loved to play pool and solvecrossword puzzles in his spare time.

 

Jack's family was the mostimportant aspect of his life and he enjoyed spending time with Pat and theirlittle Yorkie canine companions.  Heloved his children and adored his grandchildren - his immense love for them wasevident.  He will be remembered with a warmsmile and a grateful heart by those whose lives he touched with his generouslove and affection.
