Christopher's Obituary

MATTOON, IL –Christopher E. Ogborn, age 59 of Mattoon and formerly of Charleston, enteredhis heavenly home on Thursday, July 25, 2013 following a sudden and unexpecteddeath.  The Funeral Mass in honor andcelebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 inthe St. Philip Neri Chapel at the Newman Catholic Center located at 500Roosevelt Drive in Charleston with Father John Titus presiding.   Visitation for family and friends will alsobe held Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Newman Center.  Following the Funeral Mass Chris's earthlybody will be cremated and Inurnment will be held at a later date in the BailiffCemetery located near West Union, Illinois. Thoughtful donations in his honor may be made to the family in care ofCathy Smith to assist with final expenses. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the Visitation or Mass ormailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. 

Chris was born October 20,1953 in Charleston, IL a son of John E. and Betty L. (Green) Ogborn.  He was previously married to Carol Updike andSarah Jane Hill.  Chris is survived by hismother, Betty Ogborn of Mattoon; a sister, Cathy Smith and husband Frank ofNeoga, IL; three brothers, Danny Ogborn of Mundelein, IL, Carey Ogborn and wifeBrenda Lee of Bloomington, IN, and Perry Ogborn and wife Terri of Charleston; eightnieces and nephews and their families, Tiffany (Travis) Monroe, Tricia Smith,Natalie (Mike) Lin, Drew Ogborn, Grant Ogborn, Curt Ogborn, Kylene Ogborn, J.P.Ogborn; and special friends, Mike, Jan and Carolyn.  He was preceded in death by his father. 

Chris was a 1972 graduate ofCharleston High School and was on the Trojan Football squad.  He also obtained an EMT Certification throughLake Land College.  He was a veteran ofthe U.S. Air Force and for the past few years Chris assisted as a caregiver andwas a self-employed landscaper and handy-man. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charlestonand also the Mattoon YMCA. 

Chris had a variety ofinterests.  He actively tried to keep inshape through exercising, bicycling and yoga. He loved to ride motorcycles and was an avid reader.  Chris was always busy doing something - andthat something was usually helping someone else.  He realized the importance of family andfriends and was one who truly cherished his. Chris will always be remembered and loved for his kind and generousspirit.
