Robert's Obituary

Mr. Miller peacefully passed away at his residence. He is husband to Sandra Miller. Funeral Service is Monday, February 16, 2015 at 1:00 PM at New Paradise Baptist Church located at 420 68th Street; San Diego, CA 92114. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday, February 24th at 11:00 AM at Miramar National Cemetery.ROBERT SELIX MILLER was born February 19, 1930 in Madison County, Alabama. He was the only child born to loving parents, Robert and Shelby Miller. He was baptized at the age of eight in Madison County, where he also attended and graduated from Hunters School. In 1947, with his parents' written permission, Robert enlisted into the United States Navy. He spent his boot camp training in San Diego, California. While in the Navy, Robert earned several medals and commendations, including the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1955.Shortly after his military discharge, Robert began working for the United States Government Civil Service at North Island as an aircraft mechanic / assembler. There, he made many lifelong friendships. He retired in 1989 after thirty-three years of exemplary service.While in the Navy, Robert met Nannie Lee Hill. They were united in marriage on January 6, 1952. He later joined Nannie at Calvary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. S. M. Lockridge, where he served faithfully on the Pastor's Aide. Nannie preceded him in death in 1988. Robert later moved his membership to United Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Chambers, where he served as a member of the Trustee Board, Sunday School and the Pastor's Aide. While at United Missionary Baptist Church, Robert met the lovely Sandra Bowman in September of 1997. In 2005, Robert and Sandra moved their membership to New Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Moore, Jr. He was a faithful member until his health began to fail.On October 31, 2013, Robert and Sandra were united in marriage. A wonderful union was established with Sandra's children.Robert enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, fishing and cooking. He was known for his secret barbeque sauce. He would not give this recipe to anyone. He would make it late at night when no one was around. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Denise, LaShawn and Jivanti had a very special place in his heart. Robert was known for his witty sense of humor and saying whatever was on his mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not. On Friday, February 6, 2015 at 4:15 P.M., Robert Selix Miller was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sandra; stepchildren, Eldridge and his wife Margaret, Kenny and his wife Marilyn, Billy, Deborah and her husband Keith and Brenda; grandchildren, Denise, Kenny, Ronnie, Crystal and LaShawn; great-grandsons, Jivanti and Iran; goddaughters, Betty Hunn and Patricia Maxwell and a host of other relatives, church family and many friends.
