John C. Stankus, 84, of North Main Street, Pittston passed away peacefully at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility on Wednesday, March 11, 2014. He was born on January 20, 1931. Son of the late John and Agnes Lelack Stankus, John was a graduate of Pittston High School and served in the 545 MP Company of the First Calvary Division U.S. Army ,1951 to 1954. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an industrial mechanic in the shoe, bag, and garment industry, most recently for A. Rifkin. John had served as an officer in the Pittston Lithuanian Club and was a member of the congregation at Our Lady of the Eucharist Roman Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rosemary A. Yonki Stankus and by his sister, Barbara Cipollone. John is survived by his sons: Bruce, Lovelton; Mark, Pittston; and Sean, Orange. grandchildren: Danielle Boylan, Pittston; Austin Stankus, Rome,Italy; and Kyle Stankus, Cuyahoga Falls, OH. sisters: Rosemary Sheenan, Warren, NJ; Kathy Creshan, Phoenixville, PA; and Debra Schnitzer, Jersey City, NJ. Friends may call Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Kizis-Lokuta Funeral Home in Pittston. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Eucharist Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 16, 2015. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
