Stanley Joseph Kowalczyk, 97, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, May 17, 2015, in Windham, with his family by his side. Born March 31, 1918 in New Britain, he was a son of the late Eleanor (Parda) Kowalczyk. Stanley was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war, Stanley moved back to New Britain where he worked as a Custodian at Pulaski High School until his retirement. He loved dogs and fishing, but most importantly, he will be remembered as a devoted uncle and dedicated friend. He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his nephew and family, Henry and Ginette Czerwienski of Lebanon, with whom he made his home for many years; his sister, Helen Getzewich; nieces, Joanne (Keith) Sczurek, Lisa (Paul) Newton; nephews, Steven Getzewich, James (Kathleen) Getzewich, Alan (Tricia) Getzewich, Michael (Lorene) Getzewich, several other nieces, nephews and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was pre deceased by six siblings, Charles, Joseph, Stephen, Henry, Lucien and Mary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20th gathering at 10 am at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 am at the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd., with full military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
