Nathaniel F. Gess, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in Union Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1928 in Des Plains, Illinois to John Gess and Opal Price Gess.
Nathaniel served in the United States Army. He was retired from the Vigo County School Corporation. He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura Gess, who died April 16, 1996; his son, Johnny Gess; his daughter, Carol Kidd; his brothers, Ronnie Gess, Donnie Gess; his sister, Bonnie Brown; and a grandson, Jimmy Gess.
He is survived by his sons, Rick Gess (Melody)of Columbus, Indiana, David Gess(Brenda) of Terre Haute; his daughters, Lisa Bowden(Doug), Vicki Archer, Kim Haskell(Mike), Gloria Ellinger(Henry), all of Terre Haute; brothers, Jerry Gess, Johnny Gess, Connie Gess; and a sister, Margie Clark. Nathaniel is also survived by his grandchildren, Belinda Gess, Ricky Gess Jr., Robert Gess, Danny Gess, Kevin Timko, Brian Gess, Robbie Archer, Mikey Archer, John Gess Jr., Kristy Troublefield, Angel Gess, David Gess Jr., Sean Kidd, Scott Kidd, Michele Smith, Skippy Smith, Scott Smith, Jerry Ellinger Jr., Kelli Ellinger, T.J. Higginbotham, Paige Ellinger, Doug Bowden III and Matt Bowden; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 East Springhill Drive, Terre Haute, Indiana, with visitation from 12:00 noon until service time. Pastor Jeff Lee will be officiating; burial with military honors will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
