Dr. Roy Max Stephen, age 67, of Martinsville, IL passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his home in rural Martinsville, IL. He was born September 20, 1950 on the family homestead in rural Casey, IL, the son of Max Henry Stephen and V. Ruth Perisho Stephen.
He is survived by his daughter, Megan Stephen Dennison and husband Adam and their daughters, Mia and Emelia of Buffalo, IL; stepdaughters, Dustha Wahls and husband Eric and daughters, Delaney and Lauren of Charleston, IL and Kristin McVey of St. Charles, MO; brothers, Don Stephen and wife Barb of Casey, IL and Paul Stephen of Martinsville, IL; many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and his special friend of many years, Peggy Hutson and family, Kyle Hutson and wife Adrienne and children, Evangeline and Jed of Marshall, IL and Kristen Hwang and husband Phil and children, Savannah and Lily of Avon, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Eileen Stephen and sister in law, Sheila McDonough Stephen.
Roy was a 1968 graduate of Casey High School where he participated in FFA, 4-H and tennis. He served his country in the US Army from 1972 – 1974 as a flight medic in I-9 CAV. Roy earned his Bachelor degree from Southern Illinois University and his Master degree and PhD from University of Illinois in Soil Chemistry. He previously taught at Tuscola High School and Lake Land College. Roy was always very active in the agricultural community and owned and operated Arise Research and Discovery, Inc. in rural Martinsville, IL from 1994 to present.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Arise Research and Discovery office, 3998 E. Snake Trail Rd., Martinsville, IL. A prayer service will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. by Mr. Greg Sherwood. (Food will be provided.)
