Not sure what to say?

We are so sorry for your loss. Derek has fine memories of Tom.

We will miss you, Tommy. What great adventures we had! We were so blessed, so thankful to have you in our lives, dear friend!

With heartfelt sympathy to Pat and your beautiful family. Love, Big Daddy and Jan

Sorry for your loss. Uncle Tommy was a great person.

"Rock and fire, son, rock and fire!" I can still hear Coach Tom calling out those words of encouragement to my son Brendan (whom he always called "Brandon"!) when he was pitching for the Charleston Federal little league team. A wonderful guy, Tom was, always encouraging the kids and cheering them on, I miss those days and thank Tom for his generosity and help making them happen.. Blessings to you, Coach! --Bruce Guernsey, Charleston

Pat and family so sorry to hear about Tom. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

CHARLESTON, IL – Thomas John Holycross, age 76 of Charleston and formerly of Danville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home in the comforting presence of his family, on Friday, December 8, 2017.  A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at First Christian Church, 411 Jackson Street in Charleston with Pastor Mike Southards officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his honor may be made to Lincolnland Hospice and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Tom was born March 22, 1941 in Danville, Illinois to George and Ethyl Irene (Stephens) Holycross.  He married Patsy Dillon on November 26, 1969 in Kingman, Indiana.  In addition to Pat, his loving wife of 48 years, he leaves two children, Brenda Coffey and husband Brad of Ashmore and Scott Holycross of Bismark, Illinois; three granddaughters, Ashley Funneman and husband Brett, Skylar Coffey and Kaitlyn Holycross; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Stine; a sister, Carol Sue Hicks of Danville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.  Tom is also survived by a faithful group of friends who have been such a blessing to both he and Pat.  He was preceded by his parents; five older sisters, Emma Reddy, Beulah Strong, Mary Jane Sprouls, Marguerite Juvinall, Georgian Board; and his canine companions, Muffy and Daisy.

Tom was a graduate of Danville High School and furthered his education at Eastern Illinois University.   He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who honorably served his country from 1964 – 1968.  He was a 21 year employee of Moore Business Forms in Charleston and retired as a Building Services Worker at Eastern Illinois University.  Tom was a member of First Christian Church in Charleston and also held membership at the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388 and the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592.

Tom was a hard worker – both on and off the job.  When he wasn’t at his employment he could usually be found riding his bike, walking the dog or working around the house or in the yard.  He thoroughly enjoyed being outside and his favorite destination to enjoy some sun, surf and sand was at Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.  Tom was a man deeply devoted to family.  He coached youth soccer and Little League and when he wasn’t coaching he was always in attendance at his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events.  Tom leaves a legacy along with cherished memories of being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, as well as a true friend to many.
