Joseph "Joe"'s Obituary

Joseph “Joe” Chapman, age 83, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at 7:05 p.m. in Mount Vernon Health Care Center, Mount Vernon, IL.

Joe was born on September 14, 1934 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to James “Craig” and Kathryn C. (Hawkins) Chapman. On October 31, 1954, he married Gledith Rodely in Nashville, IL and she survives. Joe was an equipment operator for Operating Engineers #520 for 42 years. He was a former Grand Master Mason at the Lodge in Pinckneyville/Tamaroa Illinois.

Joe loved all animals and God’s creation. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved spending time at Dixie’s Café, riding in his truck with his dog friend Sandy, and appreciating wildlife. Joe was a man of few words but a very quick wit. He also committed acts of kindness known only to him.

Survivors include his wife, Gledith Chapman of Pinckneyville, IL; one son, Mark Chapman of Ann Arbor, MI; one daughter, Jo Carol Chapman of Beardstown, IL: one brother, Bennie Chapman of Pinckneyville, IL; and two sisters, Sally Dolling and Constance “Connie” Moore both of Pinckneyville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy Chapman and Michael Chapman; and one sister Barbara Chapman.

Masonic services will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Perry County Humane Society or the Pinckneyville Public Library.
