CHARLESTON, IL – Marjorie Elizabeth Mueller, age 80 of Charleston and formerly of Dix Hills, New York, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. The Memorial Service honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 902 Cleveland Avenue in Charleston, with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. A visitation for friends and family will be held for one hour prior to the service. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Comfort Dog Ministry. Gifts may be left at the visitation or service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
Marjorie was born May 25, 1937 in Massapequa, New York, the only child of George and Muriel (Smaje) Stelzer. She and Ronald F. Mueller were married September of 1954 in New York and they shared 46 years of marriage prior to his death on November 18, 2000. Left to cherish her memory is a son, Eric Mueller and his wife Melinda of Charleston; a daughter-in-law, Joan Mueller of Boca Raton, Florida; four grandchildren, Crystal, Brian, Katherine and Matthew Mueller; and her dear friend of 74 years, Joan Atkinson of Connecticut. In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Timothy Mueller.
Marjorie and Ronald raised their two sons in Long Island, New York and she moved to Charleston following Ronald’s death. Marjorie was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church when living in New York, and joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church family after her move to Charleston. She had a heart for helping others as a Home Health Care Nurse, a hospital volunteer, and one who delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a Cub Scout Leader (the first female leader of that troop) and was instrumental in organizing an Adopt-A-Grandparent Program at the local school. Her kindness and generosity was extended to everyone and her home was always warm and inviting to friends and family. Marjorie was fond of animals and she enjoyed the company of many pets throughout her life. All the holidays of the year were special to her and she enjoyed celebrating each and every one.
As the matriarch of her family Marjorie was always there for them whenever needed - they were precious to her and she held each of them near and dear to her heart. They will truly miss this wonderful mother and grandmother whose life radiated generosity and kindness to everyone.
