Richard Ray's Obituary

 

Richard Ray Moore, age 75, of Carbondale, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 6:00 a.m. at his home with his family by his side.

Richard was born on January 21, 1943 in Carbondale, IL, a son to Curtis and Mary Katherine (Capliger) Etherton. He married Betty Sue Batson on May 4, 1962 in Carbondale, IL and she survives. Richard was a lifelong carpenter and cabinet maker and was firefighter for the City of Carbondale, IL, retiring after 21 years. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1961 and had served as president. He was a member of the Carbondale Eagles Aerie 2569 for many years having served as a trustee. In his younger days he had horses and enjoyed riding. He was always ready to watch old westerns on TV and would always ask if there was a Randolph Scott movie on. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved his family and was always ready to help anyone.  

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Carbondale, IL; son, David Lee (Diane) Moore of Pinckneyville, IL; daughter, Monica Kay (Ron) Bohm of DeSoto, IL; brother, Robert Daniel Etherton of Murphysboro, IL; seven grandchildren, McKynlee and Katee Schwartz, Jason (Jen) Griffin, Ryan (Melissa) Griffin, Jon (Jessica) Griffin, Josh (Katie) Reuscher, and Nick (Jasmine) Reuscher; and several nieces and nephews and special nephews, Scott (Geri) Ellis and Charlie (Christy) Etherton  

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa Sue Moore; brothers, David Charles Moore and John Samuel Etherton; and sisters, Katheryn Moore and Glenda Lou Ellis.

Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Carbondale, IL ‪on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Karen Knodt officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale, IL. There will be a gathering for family and friends after the internment at the Carbondale Eagles at 12:30 p.m.

Friends may call at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ‪on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL is in charge of arrangements.
