I am so sorry to hear gene passed. He carried my mail at my parents home the whole time I grew up. And I saw him a lot when I cared for his in laws. He was a good man and friend. Rest In Peace

Ralph Eugene "Gene" 's Obituary

Ralph Eugene “Gene” Washburn, age 83, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Indianapolis, IN. He was born April 27, 1934 in Casey, IL, the son of Russell Washburn and Bonnie Grissom Washburn. On April 13, 1955 he married Coral M. Reed at her parent’s home in rural Martinsville, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Coral Washburn of Martinsville, IL; daughter, Angi Herrington of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Carmel Staley Krynock of Indianapolis, IN; Tommy Lee Staley (Melissa) of Carmel, IN; Derek Gross (Susan) of South Bend, IN and Trevor Gross (Paige) of Marshall, IL; great grandchildren, Eddie, Katie and Benji Krynock; Soren and Arlo Staley; Lily Penni and Adalynn Gross; sister, June Brewer of Florida and several uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in law, Vinton and Inez Reed; daughter, Penni Lori Gross on November 20, 2007 and grandson in law, Edward Krynock on December 10, 2017. 

Gene was a 1953 graduate of Martinsville High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Gene was a rural mail carrier and farmed alongside his father in law his entire life. He was a faithful member of Martinsville Bible Church. He was an active member and past commander of Martinsville American Legion. Gene loved living in the small community of Martinsville.  Gene’s greatest joy was knowing the Lord as his Saviour and spending time with his family. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Martinsville Bible Church with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by Martinsville American Legion, Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service at Martinsville Bible Church, 509 E. Ridgelawn Road, Martinsville, IL.
