NEOGA, IL – George R. Clark, age 84 of Neoga and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 in Orange Lake, Florida. A Graveside Service, honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Pastor Travis Spencer officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the combined honor guards of Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and Charleston American Legion Post 93 and Masonic Services will be conducted by members and guests of Charleston Masonic Lodge #35. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation. Gifts may be left at the graveside service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
George was born January 23, 1934 in Charleston, the youngest of seven children born to the late John W. and Mary (McGauhey) Clark. He married Nancy McIlwain on May 9, 1954 and they have enjoyed and celebrated 63 years of marriage. In addition to Nancy he is survived by two children, Kevin Clark and wife Kathy of Charleston and Kim Yarnell and husband David of Cowden, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Kristen Clark and boyfriend Isaac Aldrich, Bryan Clark and wife Chelsea, Jill Clark, Jared McClain and girlfriend Jaine Bruder, Morgan McClain and fiancé Mitch White, Emily Yarnell and Hannah Yarnell; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Weston Clark. George was preceded in death by all his siblings.
George was a 1953 graduate of Charleston High School and a United States Army Veteran. He attended First Christian Church where he was baptized and where he later married the love of his life. George was a member of Charleston Masonic Lodge #35, Charleston Elks B.P.O.E. #623 where he served as a District Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler, and a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #149. Many will remember George as the owner of Frommel Hardware located on the Charleston Square. He also partnered with son Kevin to form C & C Mechanical.
George enjoyed fishing, was a fan of St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and enjoyed wintering in Florida which allowed him to enjoy the game of golf year round. George dearly loved his family and always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
