Carolyn Sue Shute, age 75, of Casey, IL passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 16, 1942 in Casey, IL the daughter of Walter Jefferson Hills and Lila Faye Childress Hills. On November 12, 1961 she married Dean Franklin Shute in Casey, IL.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dean Shute of Casey, IL; daughters, Sarah Gilbert (James) of Casey, IL and Dena Gard (Eric) of Casey, IL; sisters, Joyce Madlem of Robinson, IL, and Anna Hills Shlachter (Josh) of Gurnee, IL; grandchildren, Ceara Gilbert Edwards, Derek Gilbert (Kayla), Nikolaus Gard and Mikaela Gard and great grandchildren, Maverick Edwards, Gryffin Wheeler, Connor Gilbert and Caroline Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bob Hills and Charles Hills.
Carolyn was a 1960 graduate of Casey High School. She previously worked at Charles Industries (Wescom Division) for over 12 years, Casey Dairy Queen, Slaters Mini Farm, Casey Stop and Shop, and Casey Checker Gas Station. Carolyn was a member of Casey Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Friendship United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers and feeding her birds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Markwell Funeral Home with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey and Rev. Charley Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday evening at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
