Bill and Family: I enjoyed working with Betty at Cumberland High School in the 70's. She was a joy to work with and was a great teacher and had the respect of the students and faculty. I enjoyed working with her while I served as Principal of the High School. Sorry for your loss.

Bill & Family: I am so sorry for your loss. Betty was teaching Business at Cumberland High School when I was hired as Asst. Principal in 1969 and later became Principal. She was such a great teacher and wonderful person. She was a real asset to me while we worked together. MY prayers are with you and your family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mrs. Browning's passing. I was a student of hers at Cumberland High School. She was a wonderful teacher, well thought of. I am sure she will be missed by family and friends.

Betty Jo's Obituaries

BONITA SPRINGS, FL – Betty Jo Browning 74, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. She was born in Indiana to Ruby Ferne (née Woodworth) and Charles Edward Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William O. Browning of Bonita Springs, FL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday March, 26, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, IL. A funeral service honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Adams Funeral Chapel with Jeff Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in her honor be made in Betty Browning's name to Anchor Christian Church Building Fund at: 11651 E. Terry Street, Bonita Springs, FL 34135. Gifts may be left at the visitation or service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Betty was a CPA and a real estate salesperson with Domain Realty. In addition she taught at Cumberland High School in Greenup, IL. She taught Accounting at Eastern Illinois University, Sangamon State University in Springfield, IL, Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA and Bradley University in Peoria, IL. At Bradley she was the school adviser to the Kiwanis Circle K Club, helping them to win many outstanding awards and honors.She was always active in her local church with the last one being Anchor Christian Church in Bonita Springs. She loved the Lord and always believed that he was watching over her in her 3 year battle with breast cancer.Betty loved life and cherished every minute of it, acquiring many friends and families along the way. She loved to play cards with her family and many friends in Village Walk of Bonita and Country Creek in Estero.Above all, her real joy was her grandchildren and family members.She was preceded in death by her twin daughter, Jeannette Fae Browning and her father, Charles Edward Smith.Betty is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Jo (Scott) Squire and Jacqueline Rae Browning; her stepson, Jeffrey Paul (Lori) Browning; mother, Ruby Ferne Smith; brothers, Robert (Linda)Smith, William (Marilyn) Smith, Bruce (Eleanor) Smith, Brad (Marianna) Smith and Charles “Brian” Smith; and a sister, Bonnie Smith Hibschman; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family wishes to thank the Hope Hospice staff in Bonita Springs, Hope Hospice Home Health staff and in addition, Kelly O. Life Home Health service.
