I never knew Mr. Roberts by name. I only knew him as the very friendly , helpful employee at Bianco's who had a great smile. My sympathy to the family.

Oh, how I remember going to Bianco's with my mom & dad Dorothy & Bill Rucks as a child. Freddie always greeted me & my little brother Robert with a hug. He would show us the latest toys they had gotten in & he would show us the new comic books. When it was time for us to leave he would always gave us a piece of gum or one of those little cups of ice cream that you ate with a wooden spoon. Freddie's Obituary

Freddie Andrew “Silver Fox” Roberts, age 97 of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:25 a.m. in the DuQuoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, DuQuoin, IL.

Freddie was born on June 10, 1920 in DuQuoin, IL, a son to Agustus and Mamie (Stewart) Woody. He married Inez Killian in DuQuoin, IL and she preceded him in death on June 16, 1998. Freddie was a coal miner for five years and then worked at Bianco Drugstore as a clerk, stockman and made deliveries. He was a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church, DuQuoin, IL, enjoyed gardening and made the best BBQ around.

Survivors include his very special friend, Launa Schurtz, one special nephew, Kenneth (Carolyn) Roberts of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers Carry Eugene Holmes of Joliet, IL and Harding (Myrtle) Woody of East St. Louis, IL; three sisters, Erlene Banner of Panama City, FL, Doris Holmes of Joliet, IL and Janice Penny of Joliet, IL; one step-grandson, Garland Walton Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; step-son, Garland Walton; and two brothers, Wendell Holmes and Kenneth Roberts Sr.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, DuQuoin, IL, on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Clarence Peters officiating.
