My sincere feelings go out to all Uncle Sam's children and grandchildren. I have nice memories of him including those as a little boy. He would raise me up as I hung onto those powerful forearms of his. He had a great smile & a great twinkle in his eyes.

Samuel's Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Samuel David Buxton, age 79 of Charleston and formerly of Sullivan, Illinois passed away in the comfort of his home on Thursday, April 12, 2018.  Per his request there will be no visitation or services.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a local food pantry of choice.  Adams Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Samuel was born November 12, 1938 in Pierson, Illinois, a son of the late Wilbur Rolland and Ethel (Riddle) Buxton.  He married Claudette W. Oliver and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2008.  He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Paige Buxton and a brother, Wilbur Rolland Buxton, Jr.

Survivors include his sons, Nathan Buxton (Malea), Stephen “Sammy” Buxton, and James Buxton, all of Charleston; and one daughter, Cynthia Hubbard (Ernest) of Charleston.  Sam is also survived by a sister Marion O’Bryan of Pesotum, Illinois, and three brothers, Robert Buxton of Decatur, Illinois, Edwin Buxton of Charleston, and Stephen Buxton of Golconda, Illinois.  Sam’s twelve grandchildren include Shannon Buxton, Zachary Buxton, Makalie Buxton, Brooklyn Buxton, Taelor Davis, Wyatt Buxton, Samantha Buxton, Colby Buxton, Ashleigh Buxton, Mathew Richardson, Samuel Richardson and Daniel Richardson.  He also leaves four great-grandchildren, Kai Christopher Garlin and Daisy, Gabriel and Piper Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was a 1956 graduate of Oakland High School.  He joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1960.  He was employed in the construction business and established, owned and operated two pipeline construction companies, Arthur Pipeline Construction and Ambraw Pipeline Construction.  He retired from the construction business in 1976 and went to work for the Journal Gazette Newspaper and worked there until he retired again in 2007.  Sam was a member of the Bushton Christian Church and was baptized in 1968. Sam’s final wishes for all were to love one another and pray for me.
