Anthony ‘Tony” Don Beninati, age 83, of Pinckneyville IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 5:00 a.m. in Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, IL.
Beloved husband, father, Nanno, Great-Nanno and brother,Tony was born on July 19, 1934 in Taylorville, IL, a son to Tony and Eleanor (Monroe) Beninati. On November 21, 1953, Tony married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Judy Hegler in Pinckneyville, IL. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Tony was a coal miner at Burning Star #4 for 23 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. He was involved in the Pinckneyville Lion’s Club for 40 years, Methodist Men and the American Legion. He loved playing “penny” poker with his family or any other board game and was always ready to enjoy family time. Tony enjoyed the game of golf, wood working, building bird houses and unbeknownst to him, he taught his children good work ethics, perseverance and love of family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 ½ years, Judy Beninati of Pinckneyville, IL; five children, Toby (Deb) Beninati of Melbourne, FL, Eric (Barbara) Beninati of Humble, TX, Becky (David) Wolfgram of Columbus, MN, Scott (Kathy) Beninati of Jacksonville, FL and Cathy (Erik) Wangstad of Bloomington, MN; one sister Marguerite “Sugar” (Phil) Smith of St. Peters, MO; and one brother, Brian Beninati of Biloxi, MS; ten grandchildren, Brandon Beninati, Nicholas Beninati, Caleb Wolfgram, Chelsea Sosenson, Natalie Beninati, Heather Beninati, Michael Beninati, Cutter Beninati, Taylor Beninati and Derek Beninati; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Barnett officiating.
Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Friday from noon until 2:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville Lion’s Club, the Pinckneyville American Legion or the First United Methodist Church.
