Not sure what to say?

Joyce, Cindy, and families, I'm sorry that I did not see this notification previously. I know how dear aunts and uncles can be and I know the tremendous grief at their passing. I didn't know Mardy personally, but she sounds like a wonderful person who is now rejoicing with her Lord in heaven. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Margaret June "Mardy"'s Obituary

Margaret June “Mardy” Morrison, age 99, of Casey, IL formerly of Lehigh Acres, FL and Dallas, TX passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. She was born December 5, 1918 in Bartlesville, OK the daughter of David Preston Morrison and Sydney Elizabeth Huston Morrison. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Celia (Morrison) Alkire. Mardy is survived by her two nieces, Joyce (Alkire) Shore of Hoopeston, IL and Cindy (Alkire) Cutright of LaBelle, FL.

Following her husband’s death, caused by injuries he sustained in an oil well accident in Oklahoma, Sydney brought her two young daughters, Celia and Mardy, back to Casey where her father, Harry Huston was the station master at the Casey train depot. Mardy grew up in Casey and following her high school graduation, worked for a local law firm until she and her mother moved to Dallas, TX where they resided for many years.

Some 15 years ago, Mardy relocated to Hoopeston, IL, where she lived in close proximity to Joyce and Gary Shore and their family until moving to an independent living facility in Florida a little over four years ago. There she proudly survived Hurricane Irma just last September while in the care of her other niece, Cindy.

Mardy was a devout Catholic having converted to the faith as a young girl and became her mother’s primary caretaker when called upon to do so. Though she suffered from failing eyesight in later years, Mardy maintained contact with several families she grew to know and love over the years that live both here and abroad. There was little Mardy enjoyed more than a good meal with good company. She often reminisced about her life as a child whose father worked in the oil fields, and later about the war effort our country mounted during World War II. Mardy truly was a member of the Greatest Generation having scoffed at the idea that war rations were burdensome. She later worked with a gentleman who flew with Jimmy Doolittle (“He never really liked to talk about it much”); and then befriended a family that relocated to Dallas after surviving a Nazi concentration camp, which she met while waiting for a bus. Mardy had a good sense of humor, a southern accent and a love of strawberries and ice cream and needless to say she will be missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Markwell Funeral Home with Father Augustine Koomson officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
