I remember Lena as a very kind lady when I was a little girl and they pastored Pleasant Valley Church of God in Illinois. I admired Bonnie and Ceretta (the "big" girls) and they took after their mother. My condolences to the family at this time.

Many wonderful memories of Aunt Lena. She was a very sweet and loving person. She and Uncle Hiram were great sources of encouragement when I entered the ministry. I know she is enjoying the glory of her eternal home with the Lord she loved and served so faithfully. Sorry I won't be able to attend her services. Love and prayers to the family.

Lena Ceretta Ellen (Carlen)'s Obituary
Lena Ceretta Ellen (Carlen) Wofford, age 95, of Casey, IL passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born July 16, 1922 in Greenup, IL, the daughter of Lawrence M. Carlen and Mamie L. Vaughn Carlen. On July 27, 1951 she married Rev. William Hiram Wofford, Sr. in the Jack Oak Church in rural Greenup, IL. He passed away on May 31, 1999.
Survivors include her son, Bill Wofford (Billie) of Casey, IL; daughter, Bonnie Armentrout (Alan) of Albuquerque, NM; son in law, Rev. David Beerbower of Assumption, IL; brother, Hubert “Tip” Carlen of Greenup, IL; sister, Madonna Seitz of Springfield, IL; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Ceretta Beerbower; brothers, Floyd Carlen and Robert Carlen; sisters, Dorothy Henderson, Jane Jones, Lela Wendling , Shirley Poffenbarger and Harriet Laymon.
Lena had previously worked in the Capitol in Springfield, IL for ten years. She was a homemaker and a devoted Pastor’s wife. Lena and Hiram served churches in Illinois, Arkansas and Kansas. She was a member of the Jack Oak Church of God. Lena was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time outdoors in her flower beds and organic gardens. It was very rewarding for her to serve a meal of foods produced and preserved by her efforts and that of her family. She passed on her skills of cooking and baking to all of her children. Lena’s greatest blessing since childhood was serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Jack Oak Church of God, rural Greenup, IL with Rev. David Beerbower officiating. Burial will follow in the Jack Oak Cemetery, rural Greenup, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday evening at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL.
