Thoughts and prayers go out to the family today and the days to follow John was a sweet funny man. Going to your house in Charleston and seeing John at Moore's Business Forms to see my dad and John always had a joke to tell. Anne John Jr and Julie and family please know you are in my heart with Deepest Sympathy. Rest in Peace John

John Ross's Obituary

John Ross Koester, Sr., age 82, of Mattoon, IL formerly of Charleston and Westfield, IL passed away at 9:32 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Mattoon Health Care Center, Mattoon, IL. He was born December 26, 1935 in Mattoon, IL, the son of William F. Koester and Lola Floyd Koester. On August 24, 1958 he married Annabelle Snedeker in Mattoon, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Koester of Mattoon, IL; son, John Ross Koester, Jr. (Shirley) of Wimberley, TX; daughter, Julie Ann Greeson (Mike) of Marion, IL; granddaughter, Christy Michelle Stone (Jared) of Mattoon, IL; one step grandson; two step great grandchildren; brother, William G. Koester (Rena) of Mattoon, IL; sister, Helen Smock of Mattoon, IL and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law, Rex Smock.

John was a 1954 graduate of Westfield High School. He was a US Army veteran; proudly serving his country from 1959 –1961. John was retired as a press operator for Moore Business Forms in Charleston after thirty years. He enjoyed gardening and auto racing.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Pastor Matthew Jukola officiating.   Military Rites will be conducted by the Casey VFW, Hazel Dell American Legion and Martinsville American Legion.

Memorial donations may be made to Disabled Veterans Association or Lincolnland Hospice.
