Richard “Tricky Dick” Hester, age 81, of DuQuoin, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 8:20 p.m. in his home.
Richard was born on February, 8, 1937 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son of Roscoe and Bessie (McCreary) Hester. Richard was a veteran in the United States Coast Guard. On December 23, 2003, he married Cheryl Lynn DeGuzman in the Philippines and she survives. Richard was a coal miner at Captain Mine for over 20 years. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and enjoyed traveling and flying.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Hester of DuQuoin, IL; two sons, Richard A. (Jill) Hester of DuQuoin, IL and Douglas A. Hester of New Orleans, LA; three daughters, Mary Hester of DuQuoin, IL, Stacy Secrist of Rogers, AR and Patty Withstandley of Ft. Myers, FL; his mother-in-law, Luz (Jerry) Stephenson of Puryear, TN; twelve grandchildren, Casey Soto, Ryan and Taylor Withstandley, Olivia Kerwath, Mollie Hester-Kelly, Howard, Piper and Katherine Kelly, Blake and Blair Hester, Logan and Genevive Hester; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Edwards and Betty Morgenstern; and one son-in-law, Jeff Secrist.
Richard’s wishes were to be cremated with no services.
Memorials may be made to Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
