We will dearly miss our Uncle Paul and our visits to Casey. I love the Ivy house and all the memories and times we shared as a family. Uncle Paul was a kind and generous Christian man and led an exemplary life. I find comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord now and that we will spend eternity with him!

We will certainly miss Paul. He was a well-traveled man, who could make conversation about anything with anyone. He was a very caring and kind person. We have so many fond memories and enjoyed several meals together in Delray Beach, FL where he wintered for many years. My Mom and Dad, Ben and Betty Bertram, lived in Boynton Beach, FL so we would all get together at least once a week for dinner. Paul opened his Casey home up to our family on more than one occasion without hesitation. ...

I will miss visiting with Paul and reading the letters he would write to me, sometimes enclosing a newspaper article about himself or someone else in the family. He was a great friend and cousin to my father-in-law, Clayton Max Robey, who also grew up in Casey.

Paul Wilbur Robey, age 97, of Casey, IL passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born October 11, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Artie Christopher Robey and Sylvia Jane Beasley Robey. Survivors include his nephews and nieces, Robert H. Burton (Maurene) of Clarkston, WA; Marilyn J. Cole (Bob) of Seneca, PA; Beverly K. White of Littleton, CO; Katherine Ann Saine (Richard) of Old Hickory, TN and Jeffery Middleton (Rae) of Pompano Beach, FL; cousins, Lt. Col. Jack Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO; Sandy Winnett (Jim) of Casey, IL and Dale Robey of Pana, IL; several great nephews and nieces, his Church family and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, General Pearl H. Robey and sisters, Zelta Burton and Katherine Middleton.
Paul was a 1939 graduate of Casey High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Butler University in Political Science and History in 1949. He was president of Sigma Chi Fraternity while at Butler. His college career was interrupted by serving two years (1943-1945) in the US Army in the Persian Gulf. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and was a World War II veteran.
Paul retired after a thirty year career with the US Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service. He received basic training on the Canadian border at Noyes, MN for two years before transferring to Chicago where he was an adjucator and deportation officer. While at Chicago, he received an award as one of the outstanding employees of the Department of Justice. From Chicago he was promoted to Supervisor of Immigration at San Juan, Puerto Rico airport. Two years later he was transferred to Miami, FL where he was Inspector in Charge of the Cuban Adjustment Center in Little Havana, processing Cubans for residence status. His next promotion moved him to Detroit, MI where he became Inspector in charge of the Port of Detroit for Immigration Service supervising the Tunnel and Ambassador Bridge to Canada, the Detroit International Airport and Shipping Port of Detroit. Next he was promoted to Washington, D.C. where he became the Congressional Liaison Officer for Immigration Service.
Paul enjoyed his retirement years in the “Ivy House” (the home his parents built in 1935 and he grew up in) in his hometown of Casey, IL and winter months in Delray Beach, FL. He was a lifetime member of the Casey VFW; Casey United Methodist Church, Casey Masonic Lodge, Sigma Phi Fraternity and Casey High School Alumni Association, which he served as a former President.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Casey United Methodist Church, 703 N State Hwy 49, Casey, IL with Rev. Gary Fairchild officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with graveside military rites by Casey VFW, Hazel Dell American Legion and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N Central Ave., Casey, IL.
