I am sorry to hear of Cathy's passing. She was always like a breath of fresh air. Always smiling and laughing. Very seldom did she not have that big smile on her face! I worked with her at Gilster Mary-Lee for quite a few years. She always made work fun. I sure did enjoy working with her. Mostly she loved her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. My sincere sympathy to her family.

Cathy and I were such good friend in high school. She was such a loving mother and grandmother. Tina do I both send our condolences. So sad another great member of the class of 73 left us too soon .

Cathryn "Cathy" Helene's Obituary

Cathryn “Cathy” Helene Oliver, age 63, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:25 a.m. in her home with her family by her side.

Cathy was born on February 9, 1955 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter to Charles Herman and Charlotte Elisabeth (Barnes) Hickerson. She was a member of New Athens United Methodist Church, New Athens, IL where she taught Sunday School. Cathy was a very spiritual woman who was always faithful to her church. In her lifetime, she had worked at Gilster Mary-Lee, Steelville, IL, as an LPN at Four Fountains, Belleville, IL and at Impact, Sparta, IL. She was a foster grandparent and dearly loved her family.

Survivors include her lifelong friend, Phillip Lanton of Coulterville, IL; three children, Walter E. Oliver (friend, Jessica) of New Athens, IL, Cherylyn J. Haslett of Sparta, IL and Jeaninne Haley of St. Louis, MO; two brothers, Charles E. Hickerson and Carl H. (Tina) Hickerson, both of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Carol J. (Earl) Harrison of Sparta, IL and Cheyenne G. Griffith of Wentzville, MO; eleven grandchildren, Carlye, Onna, Caitlyn, Cathleen, Chyanne, Christopher, Imari, Camryn, Niyah, Mya and Tia; six great-grandchildren, Zacarias, Brayden, Jayden, Malachi, Ariana and Kayden; two aunts, Priscilla Haley and Alice Ivie, both of St. Louis, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Hickerson and Charlotte Carney; stepfather, Robert Alonzo Carney; one daughter, Carrie Beth Oliver; her grandmother, Jane Story Moore; one sister, Cheryl Lynn Hickerson; two uncles, Johnnie Harvey and Richard Harvey; and one aunt, Esther Story Williams.

Funeral services will be held at New Athens United Methodist Church, New Athens, IL on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Savage officiating. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery, New Athens, IL.

Friends may call at New Athens United Methodist Church, New Athens, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.
