Not sure what to say?

Hi Jody -

My mom is out to visit my wife and I in New Jersey this weekend and mentioned that Rube had passed away. At most I probably no more than saw him on occasion many years ago, but wanted to express my condolences to you and your family.

Best wishes...Roger Hayden

Jody, Kristi, Barry & Lindsay:

Expressing my deepest sympathies of the loss of Rube. He was one of the first people who I got to know, as he was a "regular" morning customer at Arndt's. I kind of don't forget those first Casey people I got to know, as well as, their personalities!

Arndt's was the first place I worked when I moved to Casey which was a good way for me to get to know people. Rube came in frequently to chat with Bernie and I was usually in earshot of their...

To Jody, Kristi, Barry, and Lindsay, I just got back from vacationing from the first of August to find out that Rube had passed. I saw him at Sam's in Terre Haute IN earlier this year and it seemed as time had stood still for us as to who we were and would always be. He was one of a breed that is quickly vanishing. Loyal to a fault and true to what he believed to be right. I value every minute I ever spent in his presence. I have always revered a sense of humor I hope he shared with...

Jody; Or condolences. Been lot of years, but know you and Rub had a good life. Sorry for ya'lls lose.

I thought the world of Rube and I know his family was blessed to have such a loving and giving husband, father and grandpa. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with all the family.

My sympathies to the family. I was blessed to connect with Rube a few years ago at a Lewis reunion.

Thoughts and prayers lifted up to a wonderful family for peace and healing.

Obituary

Raymond L. (Rube) 's Obituary

Raymond “Rube” Howe, 68, of Casey, IL, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2018 at home with his family. Rube – the youngest of six children – was born on April 30, 1950 in Martinsville to Harold Alva Howe and Gladys Ann (Lewis) Howe.

After graduating from Martinsville High School, Rube attended Lake Land College and developed his trade skills. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix just about anything on a car or around the house. He expressed his creativity through various welding projects and took satisfaction in a job well done. Rube worked most of his life in agriculture – as a farm manager, and in later years, as a seed sales manager. He enjoyed the work, but he also enjoyed the farming community and the good friends he found there.

Rube married the love of his life, Jo Anne (Sloan) Howe, on June 2, 1974, and four years later, they began their journey as parents to Kristi, Barry, and Lindsay. Rube was a fun-loving father and he enjoyed supporting his kids at ball games and matches, concerts and recitals. He loved family vacations to Florida and Louisiana, and in retirement, he loved travelling with his wife to beaches in Mexico and Central America. Rube was the proud grandfather of five grandsons, and before he passed, he learned that grandson number 6 is on the way.

Rube is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jody; his children, Kristi Howe, Barry Howe (Kelli), and Lindsay Crain (Hethe); his grandchildren, Bryson Howe, Brody Howe, Brenden Howe, Brantley Howe, and Wyatt Crain; and his siblings, Vivian Fessenbeck, Joan Graham, Francis (Marianne) Howe, and Stanley (Mari) Howe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gladys Howe; his parents-in-law, George and Ruth Sloan; his sister, Lila Pindell; his brothers-in-law, John Sloan, Gail Fessenbeck, and Gil Grounds; and his niece, Sydney Sloan.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. A private funeral will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice.
