Ronnie Gene Johnston, age 67, of Elkville, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 2:25 p.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, IL.
Ron was born on July 17, 1951 in Henderson, KY, a son to Leslie Don and Betty Ann (Evans) Johnston. He worked as a union painter, was a member of the Shriners, Masons, Scottish Rite and Steel Workers Union. Ron previously served as a city commissioner in Enid, OK and loved scuba diving, but his family was most important to him.
Survivors include his daughter, Lori Ann Boland of Atlanta, GA; one son, Andrew Gene Johnston, stationed in Kodiak, AK, where he is a rescue swimmer for the United States Coast Guard; Ron’s significant other, Carol Sue Daniels of Elkville, IL; four brothers, twin brother, Johnny AaronJohnston of Elkville, IL, Keith (Lou) Johnston of Mishawaka, IN, Deon (Barbara) Johnston of Pinckneyville, IL and Tim (Patti) Johnston of Spring Arbor, MI; one sister, Candace (Rev. Kirk) Steele of DuQuoin, IL; two grandchildren, Felicity and Brodie Johnston; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron’s body was gifted to medical study.
Funeral Services will be held at Tamaroa Independent Pentecostal church, Tamaroa, IL on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kirk Steele officiating.
Visitation will be held at Tamaroa Independent Pentecostal Church, Tamaroa, IL on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL has been entrusted with arrangements.
