ASHMORE, IL – Billy Ray McDivitt, age 96 of Ashmore, Illinois, entered into his Heavenly Home on Monday, December 17, 2018. The Graveside Service to honor and celebrate his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Enon Cemetery located in Ashmore Township, with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Memorials in his honor may be made to Enon Baptist Church and mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
Bill was born May 6, 1922 in Coles County, Illinois, the only child of Paul and Lorene (Beasley) McDivitt. He was united in marriage to Loleta Holmes on March 25, 1940 and they were married 70 years prior to her death in 2010. Left to cherish their many fond memories are his sons, Del McDivitt and wife Julie and Richard McDivitt and wife Kathy, all of Ashmore; 6 grandchildren, Connie Lee of Meeker, Oklahoma, Candy (Michael) Vaughan, Brandy (Dustin) Furry, Paul McDivitt and Rick McDivitt, all of Charleston and Kimberly (Charlie) Springman of Sullivan, Illinois; 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Bill was also preceded by a great-great-grandson.
Bill was a man of faith and a longtime member of Enon Baptist Church. As a lifelong steward of the land and a caretaker of livestock, Bill’s life reflected his love for farming. His deep love and commitment to his family was undeniable and he was always pleased to have his home filled with those near and dear to his heart. Often, sounds of his steel guitar could be heard as he joined with other family members in playing their favorite tunes. His sense of humor was appreciated and is a trait he passed on to his sons. Bill was a decent and honorable man who often said that he “felt blessed to have a good life here on earth”.
