CHARLESTON, IL – David Randall Thomson, age 59 of Charleston, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 while at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. A private family graveside service and inurnment will be held at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon at a later time. Donations in his honor may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter and may be left at the visitation or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
David was born January 12, 1959 in Mattoon, Illinois, a son of Charles William “Bill” and Mary Lou (Lundeen) Thomson. Dave married Kim Lawhorn in Mattoon on October 8, 1983. Those left to cherish their many loving memories are Kim, his loving and devoted wife of 35 years; his son, Hunter Thomson and wife Nikki of Charleston; mother and step-father, Mary Lou and Jimmie Replogle of Charleston; a sister, Dawn Thomson of Charleston; two stepsisters, Becky Sheppard (Dave) of Red Oak, Texas and Janet Smith (Lonnie) of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Dave was preceded in death by an uncle, Randy Lundeen.
Dave was a 1977 graduate of Mattoon High School and continued his education at Lake Land College where he attained his Associates Degree. He was employed at Blaw-Knox in Mattoon for more than 20 years and was currently employed at Yargus Manufacturing in Marshall, Illinois. He was a member of the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388, a life member of the NRA, and a member of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). Dave previously served as a volunteer firefighter with the Lincoln Fire Protection District for more than 20 years, holding the rank of Lieutenant. His enjoyment of the outdoors was evident as he often helped on the family farm, was a deer and turkey hunter, participated in 3-D bow shoots with friends, and was frequently seen out on his Harley-Davidson for a ride. Dave was content being at home, enjoying the company of his dogs, and sharing quality time with his family as a loving devoted son, husband and father.
