Not sure what to say?

Pam and I were so sorry to learn of Maxine's passing. Maxine, Jr, and the family have been special to us for over 36 years. Our kids (the "original" 3) have fond memories of Maxine from Sunday School and VBS at Enon Baptist Church. Our thoughts and prayers are w/ the family at this time...and, in the days and weeks ahead. There are 2 things they know without any doubt...that Maxine was a wonderful Mom and Grandmother...and that they will be reunited with her and their Dad/Grandfather for...

Your mom's Memorial Video was Beautiful. So many Wonderful Memories of your Mom and Family. I am glad she is resting in peace.

Please accept my deepest sympathy, I attended bible school with my neighbors one year and Maxine was my teacher I loved her! Never forgot her. Alan and Janet and family you have my sympathy and prayers

So sad to read of Maxines passing. Fond memories of her and her family while teaching at Ashmore School and coaching Jon. My sincere sympathy.

I remember her smile and laugh when she came to visit my grandmother Handwerk

Maxine's Obituary

ASHMORE, IL – E. Maxine Strader, age 93 of rural Ashmore, Illinois, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 30, 2018 while at Hilltop Skilled Nursing.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 – Noon on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.  The Funeral Service honoring and celebrating her life will begin at noon on Friday.  Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery located in Ashmore Township.  Donations in her honor may be made to the American Heart Association or Enon Baptist Church and left at the visitation/service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Maxine was born February 2, 1925 in Charleston, Illinois, a daughter of the late William Chancie and Effie (Birch) Myers.  She married William Junior Strader in Charleston on June 10, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2006, following 60 years of marriage.  Those left to cherish their many fond and loving memories are her children, Mary Jo Coartney and husband Doug of Ashmore, Janet Johns and husband Alan of Charleston, Debbie Veach and husband Mike and Jon Strader and wife Stephanie, all of Westfield, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Chris) Gleckler of Paris, Illinois, Kel (Tori) Coartney of Ashmore, Ryan Johns of Villa Park, Illinois, Andrew (Corlene) Veach of Casey, Illinois, and Will, Wade, Wyatt and Ellie Strader, all of Westfield; and three (soon to be five) great-grandchildren.  Maxine also is survived by Norma Winkleblack of Charleston who is her niece but shared a bond more as a sister.  In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded by a sister, Virginia Snider.

Maxine was a graduate of Eastern State High School and went on to attend Eastern State Teacher’s College.  She was employed by the William Reat Insurance and Real Estate Agency for ten years.  Realizing the importance of family and always making them a priority, Maxine left the real estate office to become a full time homemaker and farm wife so that she could be home with her family and assist Junior with the farming.  She was a faithful and active member of Enon Baptist Church serving as clerk and teaching Sunday School, a leader of the Ashmore Busy A’s 4-H Club and a member of the Coles County Home Extension.

Maxine loved watching the birds, was blessed with an artistic ability, and enjoyed league bowling with Junior.  During the summer, many hours were spent tending her garden, and as a great cook, her family always enjoyed gathering around her table.  Maxine was well known for her love of playing cards and her seat was always claimed when playing with her card clubs.  Maxine loved her family dearly and will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness toward others.
