Dorothy was a wonderful lady and I always looked forward to playing bingo with her and visiting with her. I wish there were more people like Dorothy in this world. RIP my dear friend. Sending thoughts and prayers to her family.

Dorothy L. Hargis, age 86 of Ashmore, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 while at Charleston Rehab and Healthcare. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL. The Funeral Service honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11 a.m. following the visitation with Pastor Jeremy Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston, IL.
Dorothy was born December 28, 1932 in Douglas County, IL, a daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth (Decker) Key. On April 22, 1950 she married the love of her life, Victor Winston Hargis, and they spent 54 years together before his passing in 2004. Left to cherish her memory are their two sons, Victor S. Hargis, Sr. and his wife Donna of Charleston, IL, and Daryl D. Hargis and his wife Cindy of Greenup, IL; grandchildren, Stacie Getsinger (John), Victor S. Hargis, Jr. (Casey), Kyle Hargis, Camela Danbraber (Kevin), Samantha Hargis (Nick Deters); great grandchildren, Ashton Hargis, Alexis Miller, Hailee Getsinger, Easton Joseph Danbraber, Presley Daryl Danbraber; and sister, Virginia Davis.
Dorothy was a manager in the deli department at the Charleston IGA and then went on to work in the kitchen at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, loved to gamble and play bingo. Dorothy was a very private person who loved her family above all.
