Arthur A. Corbin

CHARLESTON, IL – Arthur Allen Corbin, age 86 of Charleston, Illinois, and formerly of Sugar Grove, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.  The Funeral Service honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Norman Stark officiating.  Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Charleston with Military Services to be conducted by the Charleston VFW and Charleston American Legion combined honor guard.  Donations in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Art was born April 20, 1932 in Charleston, a son of the late Arthur W. and Irene (Courtney) Corbin.  On December 7, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Charleston, Judith Mason became his wife, and they have been blessed to have shared these past 61years together.  In addition to his loving and devoted wife Judith, Art is survived by their children, Karen Due and husband Adam of Greenup, Illinois and Michael Corbin and wife Jena of Van Buren Township, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Joshua Due and wife Amanda, Andy Due and wife Zoe, Aaron Due, Rachel Due, Ian Corbin, Hannah Corbin and Elliott Corbin; and two great-grandchildren, Ollie and Matthew Due.  Art is also survived by a large extended family of nieces and nephews including Tom Corbin and wife Kelly of Charleston, Art Corbin and wife Sheila of Bloomington, Illinois, Ed Corbin and wife Amy of Sullivan, Illinois and Ellene Santrock and husband Larry, also of Charleston.  Art was preceded in death by three brothers, Wes, Neil and Richard Corbin; and a nephew, Neil Corbin.

Art was a 1940 graduate of Charleston High School.  He served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Turkey.  Art attended the Air Force Tech School at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi and the FAA Training Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Skilled in the area of avionics, Art was employed for 31 years by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Airway Systems Crew Chief.  Following his formal retirement from the FAA, Art joined that the staff at Eastern Illinois University in the Computer Tech Department.

Art’s church membership remains with the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Illinois but has actively attended both First Baptist Church and Charleston Bible Church since moving back to Charleston in 1987.  He enjoyed outdoor hobbies such as hunting and fishing and was considered to be a naturalist, as he and Judith own a natural tree farm in Cumberland County.  Art was always the gentleman and possessed a sweet and kind demeanor.  He was also a gracious individual who was admired for his generous spirit.  Art was respected by his many friends and much loved by his family.  As a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by those who will cherish forever their many fond memories.
