Maurice David Winnett, age 77, of Casey, IL passed away at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at his home. He was born December 25, 1941 in Charleston, IL, the son of Albert Jackson and Josephine Ruth Edman Winnett. On October 5, 1962 he married Leota Lucille Irby in Greenup, IL.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 56 years, Leota Winnett of Casey, IL; his four legged grandson, Harley; sisters, Marjorie James (Walter) of Channahon, IL and Linda Carlen (Steven) of Greenup, IL; brothers-in-law, Fred Irby of Casey, IL; Bob Kemper of Greenup, IL and Jerry Green of Greenup, IL; sister-in-law, Sue Wells (Steve) of Greenup, IL and many nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shawn Lee Winnett; daughter-in-law, Jessica Dawn Winters Winnett; brothers, Albert “Sonny” Winnett, John Dean Winnett, Clinton Winnett; sisters; Mary Lou Winnett, Maggie Brown, Connie Devall, Judith Green, Rose Marie Porter; sisters-in-law, Kendra Irby and Emma Kemper and 4 furry grand puppies.
Maurice owned and operated the Turntable Disco in Casey, IL with his wife and son. He worked for SKF in Casey and was President of the local UAW. He later retired from North American Lighting in Paris, IL. He enjoyed stock car racing, bowling and playing pool, many of which he received awards from. He always considered his lucky number to be #13.
A Final Prayer by Mr. Luke Sanders will be said at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Markwell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the prayer from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Burial will be at a later date.
