I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother/ mother-in-law Jean. I have such fond memories of her and your dad on visits to your house as a teenager. They were such wonderful people! My thoughts and prayers to all of you that God gives you peace and comfort during this time of loss.

Jean's Obituary

Melba Jean Campbell, age 88, of Cutler, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 6:50 p.m. in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pinckneyville, IL.

Jean was born on September 1, 1930 in Perry County, IL, a daughter to Erle and Grace (Bigham) Hallbauer. On June 16, 1954, she married Russell Dean “Bud” Campbell in Germany. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. She taught in a one-room school, Union School, and she was the last living teacher from that school. Later in life, she worked for nearly 20 years as a teacher’s aide at Pinckneyville Elementary School District #50. Jean was a member of Denmark Baptist Church, Denmark, IL and of the Gold Wing Road Rider’s Association. They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida, riding their motorcycle and going dancing. Jean loved reading, gardening, sewing, embroidery and making her own clothes. She also loved spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Nyra Campbell (Darrin Aubuchon) of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sons, Keith (Crystal) Campbell of Pinckneyville, IL and Dwayne Campbell of Cutler, IL; two sisters, Helen Smith of Pinckneyville, IL and Fern Shannon of Murphysboro, IL; three grandchildren, Leah Campbell (Garrett Callender) of Nashville, TN, Ashley Campbell (Kevin Patton) of Benton, IL and Steven Campbell (Angelina Mabrey) of DuQuoin, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and more recently her husband, Russell Dean “Bud” Campbell on December 25, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at Denmark Baptist Church, Denmark, IL on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Jeff Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Cottom Cemetery, Denmark, IL.

Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at Denmark Baptist Church, Denmark, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Cottom Cemetery, Denmark, IL.
