Agnes Fern (Steuart) Stewart, age 98, formerly from Coulterville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 2:01 p.m. in McClay Senior Living, Saint Peters, Missouri.
Agnes was born on January 19, 1921, a daughter of James Robb and Elizabeth (McIntyre) Steuart. After graduation from high school she moved to St. Louis to attend Rubicon Business School and worked at Dr. LaGear Medical Co. in accounting. She went to Gibson Heights Presbyterian Church in St. Louis where she met Mrs. Sarah Kelewae and rented a room from her. After her father’s death in 1953, she and her mother moved to Jacksonville, FL where she lived working for Fidelity and Causalty Co. of NY for 25 years. She and Vern reconnected in 1992 and married January 23, 1993. They lived in Jacksonville until Vern became sick and she moved with him to MO in 2000 and took care of him until his death on January 5, 2005.Fern loved going to church, singing in the choir, the symphony, travel, Red Hat lunches and watching the STL Cardinals. She had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by nieces, Elizabeth Ann Dobbins and Mary Albertine (Mac) McDaniel; nephew, Carl D. Dobbins (Judy); great nephew, William J. “Billy” Dobbins (Hellen); stepdaughter, Helen (Robert) Hemsath; stepsons, Richard Stewart and Roger (Vicki) Stewart; 19 grandchildren; and multiple great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valle Vern Stewart; parents (J. Robb Steuart & Elizabeth McIntyre Steuart); sister, Mary Marguerite (Carl O.) Dobbins; brother, David Steuart; step sons, Vern David Stewart and Dennis Stewart; stepdaughter, Jacqueline (Harold) Bergfeld; and grandson, Duane Bergfeld.
Funeral services will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1580 Kisker Road, St. Charles, MO, on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. with The Reverend Dr. Christopher James, Pastor and Reverend Jim Stark officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, IL.
Visitation will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1580 Kisker Road, St. Charles, MO, on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church, St. Charles, MO.
