Irene, as she was affectionately known, was born September 11, 1919 in Charleston, Illinois, to the late Arthur and Ethel (Anderson) Woodyard. She married Robert Wright on November 16, 1947 and they celebrated 47 years of marriage prior to his death on January 15, 1995. Left to cherish many wonderful memories is her loving daughter, Ann Hilgendorf and husband Steve and grandson, Jacob Hilgendorf and wife Megan, all of Tuscola, Illinois along with several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Betty Woodyard. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joel Hilgendorf; a brother, Russell Woodyard; and a sister, Hazel Bennett.
Irene was a graduate of Westfield High School and was employed as a clerk at Benedicts located on the north side of the Charleston Square. She was a member of Charleston First Presbyterian Church and a 50 + year member of the Order of Eastern Star Ashmore Chapter #670. Irene enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles but her life was centered round her family. She treasured the mother/daughter relationship that she and Ann shared and was overjoyed to be a loving and devoted grandmother to Jacob and Joel. Irene’s family was truly blessed with the best!
