Jim Mitchell, age 74, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 12:40 a.m. in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pinckneyville, IL.
Jim was born on October 20, 1944 in Percy, IL, a son to Joshua and Wanda (Jaimet) Mitchell. He married Dorothy Sargent on February 6, 1965 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage, Pinckneyville, IL and she survives. Jim worked as a coal miner at the Captain mine for over 20 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A., Lion's Club, the Masons, and Roe's Dale Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL. During his life he enjoyed coaching his youngest daughter in softball. He also loved fishing, rabbit hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Mitchell of Pinckneyville, IL; two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Hankla of Pinckneyville, IL and Michelle (Buddy) Dailey of Hannibal, MO; three grandchildren, Dorothy Nicole Hankla, Mitchell James Hankla and Caitlyn Jean Dailey; three sisters, Donna (Bob) Miller of Steeleville, IL, Dianna Eubanks of Percy, IL and Joni (John) Vogt of Ava, IL; one brother, Allen Mitchell of Chester, IL; one aunt, Betty Throop of Percy, IL; and two nephews, Chad (Natalie) Eubanks and Ben Vogt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Alta Smith; one brother-in-law, Curt Eubanks; and one uncle, Dink Throop.
Funeral services will be held at Roe's Dale Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ted Clark and Pastor Lee Valerius officiating. Interment will be held at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
Visitation will be held at Roe's Dale Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Roe's Dale Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, IL.
Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL has been entrusted with the arrangements.
