Norma helped me tremendously with my work on our family genealogy. Without her we would have lost information and pictures. She helped me name many people in family photos. Enjoy your homecoming Norma. See you at the next reunion.

Norma 's Obituary

MATTOON, IL – Norma Jean Harkins, 89, of Mattoon, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 31, at Broadway Christian Church in Mattoon with Todd Zastrow officiating.  Graveside rites will follow at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois at 3:00 pm.

Norma was born November 2, 1929 in West Frankfort, Illinois, the daughter of John and Eunice (Oliver) Grubbs.   She married Howard Harkins in 1950 and celebrated 52 years until his death in 2002.  Norma is survived by two children,  Ken Harkins (Anne) and Paula Kearney (Jim);  nine grandchildren, Robbie Adair (Beta), Demian Harkins (Julie), Clint Harkins (Heather), Dustin Harkins (Alicia), Dacia Harkins Albin (Greg), Megan Harkins Ramberg (Matt), Kennedy Harkins, Blake Kearney (Sarah) and Tyler Kearney (Karrie); 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death was her brother Edwin and sister Maxine Eldridge.

Norma, a Cubs fan extraordinaire, was employed as secretary at Jefferson Junior High School and Pilson Auto Center.  She was a member of the former Mattoon Free Methodist Church.  Norma’s life was driven by Christian service while fulfilling the role of a perfect Mom and Grandma.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.
