Not sure what to say?

Thank you for for being a great beekeeper friend - I enjoyed listening to you about your bees and your methods and sharing ideas. You were much appreciated.

As we age, we "get" the idea that trees we plant are meant to be enjoyed by those we will never know. We prepare now for what the younger folk will improve on.
This is a burden we take on. Occasionally (far too often) we see the younger genius, those better than we, fall when they should outlive us.
Fate makes fools out of us all.

I have been friends with Thomas and Marcia for decades.
We have camped together, helped serve our ideals together, and enjoyed many happy...

He will be missed by so many people whose lives he touched. My heart goes out to his entire family. Many condolences.

Tom will always be an inspiration with his quiet humor and acts of spontaneous kindness.....He will remain a part of us forever. Love from, Donna, Daniel, and Charmaine

His passing was a huge blow to many of us. He was one of the most gracious open hearted kindest people I've ever met. Our world is much the less for him not being in it. Marcia, know that we all share your grief and that you are not alone.

Soon after I became Pastor of Community Bible Church (Concrete), Tom and Marcia asked me if I would be willing to conduct their wedding ceremony. I said yes. Then they added, "But would you be willing to dress like a monk to do the ceremony?" It's a question I had never been asked before (and never have been asked since). When I asked why, they both excitedly shared about their interests and hobbies. Especially of their involvement with SCA. It was a wonderful ceremony and looking at...

Thank you for the good memories and inspiring me to be a better person. I´ll see you in Valhalla when the time comes.

I am very blessed and thankful to have known Tom and Marcia while involved with their SCA interest of horses. Tom is really one of my favorite all-time people. Always a smile, often with a gift of honey or coffee. I don’t think I ever saw a frown stay too long on his face. He had a great sense of humor and adventure. With a Skagit County Fair coming up next week I have a fond memory of my friend in chainmaile posing for a picture with me! You are already missed Tom!

Tom was my nephew and raised with my children as we then lived in Sedro Woolley. He was always the kindest and most helpful person you could find. His sharp sense of humor and ability for hilarious comebacks was known by everyone he met. He never me a person that he could not find something good about, and defend them if he didn't feel people were analyzing them fairly. All of these traits made him the person that we will always think of with love and miss in the most deep part of our heart....

Thomas E. Royal

November 18, 1966 – July 11, 2021

Tom Royal passed away suddenly after an afternoon participating in activities he loved. He was attended by his wife Marcia, and in the company of friends.

Tom was a life-long resident of Skagit County. A graduate of Concrete High School (Class of ’85) where he was involved in sports. He played football and was a member of the 1984 state champion Lions. After graduating he attended Skagit Valley College.

He worked for Brown & Root at the Shell refinery in Anacortes. Delivered pizza for Domino’s for a time. Tom then worked for Hexcel Corporation in their Burlington plant for over 25 years, most recently as an NC operator.

Tom married his beloved Marcia in 1992 and embarked on a life of shared adventures and travel, eventually settling on 5 acres in the country with their two horses (and cats).

Tom enjoyed fishing, cooking, occasionally felling trees with his Dad, and spending lots of time with family and friends. He was also a member of The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA, Inc.), where he enjoyed participating in armored combat, equestrian games, and pursuing interests in the arts and sciences of the Middle Ages. An exciting life event was participating as a Norman knight in the 2006 Battle of Hastings re-enactment at Battle, England. In the last several years Tom became an avid beekeeper and leaves behind about 14 hives!

Tom is survived by Marcia, his wife of nearly 29 years; parents Lauretta (Rusher) Royal of Bremerton, and Robert & Delores Royal of Sedro-Woolley; brothers Kelly (Lisa) of Everett and Richard (Jessica) of Helena, Montana; step brothers and sisters, LaLonnie, Lloyd, Rick and Shannon, all of Sedro-Woolley; several aunts and uncles, cousins, and a passel of nieces and nephews. Gone too soon, Tom will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 14th, 2021 from 1-4pm at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley (901 River Road). An informal “open house” gathering…bring memories and stories to share.

Memorials in Tom’s name may be made to:  WSU Honey Bee Research Facility (https://bees.wsu.edu/); the American Diabetes Association (https://www.diabetes.org/);  or (for SCA folks wishing to make memorial donations to SCA-related groups – see Marcia for donation forms).
