I still have the letter he wrote to me and Boo Boo (family she was my grandmother - a fun lady who he met in Maryland). Mr. Garrett was always kind, loving and considerate. I enjoyed our encounters at Shiloh Baptist Church. He will be missed!

Beloved husband of Catherine Phelps-Garrett; loving father of Andre, La-Rhonda, Michael, Twyla and Kevin. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Melvin's memory to Shiloh Baptist Church, the City Mission, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
